Matriculated at St. John’s College, Johannesburg in 1967

He Enrolled at Pretoria College for Advanced Technical Education in 1970. (now Tshwane University of Technology - TUT).

In 1978 was appointed part-time lecturer at Tecknikon Pretoria, and full-time from 1981.

In 1989 he was appointed part-time lecturer at Pretoria University.

Carl gives regular figure-drawing classes at the Arts Association, Pretoria And at “The Studio” in Johannesburg.

He has had three solo exhibitions and has taken part in more than 75 group exhibitions; among them: one in Portugal, one in Macau, South-east Asia and one at Michigan State University (MSU).

Has been a judge on 21 selection committees, including New Signatures (5 times) and Art Alive (4 times).
