I was born in 1984 and grew up in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, South Africa. I obtained a degree in Fine Arts in 2006 from the University of Pretoria. Since then I have taken part in a group exhibitions in Pretoria and was also part of the ABSA L’Ateliers, Johannesburg (a prestige art competition in South Africa) in 2007. I work in a variety of mediums but is mostly interested in digital imagery not only for its reproductive qualities but also for it manipulative qualities and reference to the artificial. My themes often concern the perceptions and construction of reality. Mostly situated in current themes of popular culture, I have explored themes such as celebrity as well related topics such as consumer culture and excess; this includes glamour, narcissism, hedonism, artificiality, body politics, media and mass production. In 2007 I’ve worked in the fashion industry as a fashion intern at Elle magazine South Africa, and developed an even stronger relationship with these themes. I am hoping to continue with a MA (Fine Arts) in 2009.
