MetaMusic projects use Hypercomposition is a technique of meta-composition created by our Music Director Vergil Sharkya. It allows for the generation of new sound material from digital, or digitised, recordings of conventional compositions, and the organisation of that new sound material in relation to the original composition. The original composition, or a variation of it, can be integrated into the resulting hypercomposition.

Hypercomposition is a continuation of the development of the art of composition into the digital age, utilising the possibilities of digital sound processing as well as the traditional artistry of creating music. Like all composition techniques, the technique of hypercomposition brings forth a strong aesthetic in the works created with it, yet it is an open system which can be employed by composers to reflect their individual preferences. The hypercompositions I have created to date are largely based on western music, but the technique can be used to hypercompose compositions created in all the manifold musical traditions of the world.
