PAX project has 5 strands: Arts (visual and performing), literature, science, society and children

Visual arts strand aims to:

1. Engage local artists with their communities through community building art
2. Facilitate the touring of foreign artists in the targeted countries
3. Engage artists in transnational art collaboration through the Womb project

1. Community building as an art form.

What is it ? There are four models for artists working in community. In each, the artist enters the community and observes or interacts with the community.

In model number one, the artist makes art about the community or about her experiences with or impressions of the community. This is the artist’s singular vision.

In model two, the community participates in a discourse that contributes to the design or site of the finished artwork, or art product, then the artist makes it.

In three, the community members help the artist to make the art product.

And in four, the artist collaborates with community members in the research, discourse, site choice, design development, and making of the art product.

We are most interested in the fourth model of community building as an art form. This is the truly interactive model. It requires empathetic relationship between artist and community, establishment of personal and meaningful connection between artist and community, and ongoing commitment to dialogue between artist and community. Indeed--and for many artists, this is the most problematic part--it requires that artists release some control of the final product into the hands of the very communities with which they are collaborating.

Why we do it ? Community building art projects are a way of empowering the disenfranchised populations as they give them power of self-representation, allowing them to speak for themselves.

How we do it? Every year, in each of our target cities, we invite a number of artists for an artists-in-residency program where local and guest artists artists engage with the local communities to create community building artworks.

2. Facilitate the touring of foreign artists

What is it ? Programme of Exhibitions in selected art galleries

Why we do it? to promote the under-represented art in target cities and to give the opportunity to guest artists invited to the artist-in-residence programme to have an international exposure throughout PAX network. h

How we do it? We intend to partner with at least one art gallery in each of our target cities and organise with them a touring programme for occasion of the artists-in-residency program to exhibit their works to the communities of art lovers and galleries goers.
