Science is the universal language p a r excellence, it transcends cultures and faiths and its impact can be felt on virtually anywhere in the world, therefore it represents one of the strongest uniting factor s .
The practices of science and art involve the single-minded of those moments of discovery when what one perceives suddenly becomes more than the sum of its parts.
The objective of MetaScience is to nurture the intersection of art, science and humanities and to raise public awareness about artists and scientists using science and technology to explore new forms of creative expression as well as to socially increase collaborations between these fields to address social divisive issues.
MetaScience evolves around two ax i s:
1. The Communication of science to public through art forms - Scientific communities are completely entr e nched from the general public and this lack of communication makes it difficult to raise public awareness for important issues.
We are launching in 2009 with our partner Banglanatak an innovative initiative that uses the theatre methodologies to convey scientific information in a similar way that is been done with social messages. This method allows the possibility of immediate assessment of the result of the information dissemination.
2. Scientific knowledge can be found in the oral traditions of communities and art forms can be used to report and record such knowledge and take it back to the scientific community.
As 2009 is the Year of Astronomy and as some of our target cities represent a rich tradition in the use of astronomy, we aim to engage scientists and folks in a two-way collaboration project with the creation of a performance that will convey information on the latest finding in astronomy and at the same time tries to gather information on oral tradition on astronomy through the participatory theatre methodologies.
